The Wayalailai Resort (use resort very loosely) is very nice. The staff has been very friendly, we have met some really cool travelers, and the sun has been shining for the better part of the 9 days we have been here. Here are the basics: We are served three square meals a day, to which we are beckoned by wooden drums-for breakfast some sort of bread item(with peanut butter and vegimite options), cold cereal (we prefer the Coco Fritos) and tea; lunch is two scoops of rice, some sort of meat ( chicken, octopus or lamb), a coleslaw, slice of watermelon, slice of coconut and a mug of Tang. Dinner is same as lunch with a slight twist- there is no tang. We haven’t had as much seafood as expected much to John’s disappointment.
To sum up or first three days: wake up, watch the sunrise (from our room), listen drums, eat, find a hammock, read, sleep, snorkel, sleep, listen for the drums, repeat. . . There is evening entertainment every other night consisting of traditional Fijian dance and music. After 3 days of doing nothing we decided to start taking advantage of the island activities including weaving bookmarks and bracelets with the village women, taking the sunset hike to the highest point in the Yasawa chain, swimming to the next island, and snorkeling with reef sharks. We are feeling rested and relaxed but not yet board. We are looking forward to several more days here and plan to do more snorkeling, hiking, and lots and lots of hammocking.
Internet here is basically dial up so no pictures for now. Just close your eyes and pictures beautiful white sand beaches, deep blue waters, with thatched roof huts in the background and that is pretty much it. We will send pictures as soon as we can.
That sounds awesome! And how can you go wrong with Coco Fritos? Looking forward to pictures…
…good to hear your voices. makes me want to spell “idyllic”…island-yllic….
Great to hear from you. Hope you are enjoying the relaxation and time to reflect. Thinking of you often.
Sooo good to hear from you. Sounds like the island life was a good way to start this trip! We think of you every day. Love you!
I take it Coco Fritos beat Frosted Flukes.
Sounds like the hammock is the perfect place to start your adventure. Lay there, not working, for all of us!
Lovin’ the blogging world more and more – it’s good to hear about your daily life. Hope your dial up connection allows you to keep us posted. I understand slow internet issues. Love you!
Hey, in case you haven’t checked Facebook recently, Lauren is engaged.
I am so glad to read you made it safely to Fiji and that you have been able to rest and relax to your hearts’ content! The snorkeling with sharks sounds exciting, and hammocking in a warm tropical breeze sounds absolutely lovely! I look forward to the pictures.
Hey John & Erin,
This is actually Aaron, but I’ve got an old friend who lives in New Zealand, I told them you were spending some time there and she said she would love to meet you or you could drop by for some fellowship or lodging or just insight on NZ. Her name is Trista, great Christian friend who I know from Spokane and then she moved to Wellington, NZ. Here is her email, tristalucas@hotmail.com
Take care, Aarno
“Fiji on the front end”…I love it! And somehow had not commented on it yet!
